Who Should Attend?
Auto mechanics, shop owners and managers, fleet managers, garage managers, environmental stakeholders interested in vehicle maintenance regulations, requirements and best practices
What to Wear?
While a majority of the workshop is indoors in the auditorium, we will be touring outside. Please wear boots, sneakers, outdoor attire (dress for the weather). If you need assistance, please call (202) 535-1939.
The Washington Metropolitan Auto Body Association (WMABA) and the U.S. National Arboretum are partners this year. For the first time, DOEE and USDA staff will conduct a tour of Hickey Run Outfall; attendees will see the environmental impact of stormwater on local waterways.
Ms. Elias is the stormwater pollution prevention coordinator for DOEE’s Stormwater Management Division where she provides outreach, education, and compliance assistance. She has over 12 years of experience in environmental protection and conservation, and holds a MS in Ecology from the University of California Davis.
Stormwater Pollution Prevention for Your Bottom Line
Source reduction can give your shop a competitive edge by working to prevent waste, reduce toxicity, increase efficiency, and save you money. Learn about low-cost options for material management, alternative products, and recycling processes that will help prevent stormwater pollution.
Manhole covers and drainage structures: Uncovering the Unknown
Automotive shops often have underground structures designed to prevent the pollutants from entering city sewer systems known as best management practices or BMPs. Many facilities have BMPs on their property that they are unaware of. We will discuss why BMPs are installed, how they function, and how understanding your facility’s drainage system can protect the District’s waterways.
